She was a great Hindi poetess who combined in her personality the patriotism of Joan of Arc and the lyricism of Meera. She was born in a village called Nihalpur in Allahabad. Married to Thakur Laxman Singh of Khandwa in 1919 she became a devoted wife and a mother. She plunged into National Struggle and was the first woman Satyagrahi to court arrest in Nagpur.
